Why do we love the weekend, so much?
I woke up this morning (at about 5:04am) to the annoying sound of my phone vibrating. Strange number, but my instincts say "answer anyway". Most times, I trust my instincts to deliver so I was a little disappointed to hear who was on the other side of the line. An old friend I hadn't heard from for about half a decade now. Last time I saw him, he didn't look so good (rumour has it that he's been off the rails a little mentally, recently) but it's always nice to catch up anyway. Of course, he starts yapping about annoying business I know nothing about (if you must know, he's asking me "yahoo" questions) but eventually gets to the reason he called. He's coming to Benin TODAY, and wants to come party at PROOF. I wish the bed would open up, and I sink deeper into the sleep I was enjoying until I got that call.
It got me thinking, how can you be talking to someone at that time of day about party plans? Just goes to show that people would go to any length, to have a great time....especially at weekends. I have bankers who reserve space at the club for Friday nights. Grown up men, taking excuses from their wives just to go out for a night. Girls flocking to the saloon on Friday morning to get new weaves in, or the boutique for a new black dress (some even do both). All just for a chance to unwind.... I guess the stress in this country is actually LEGENDARY.
Anyway, it's Friday again. People who know me say today's my favourite day of the week, not like I would disagree. I would only like to say, I look forward to Friday because it's an opportunity to hangout with friends who normally wouldn't have the time to be out all night. Save for that, I have a good time everyday (or night) so it's nothing special. If you need some proof, you'll need to tune your GPS frequency to PROOF tonight.
Work has been a little hectic, so I have barely had time for anything else but I saw a very nice movie last night.... Roman J. Israel Esq by Denzel Washington. I'm not gonna go into details about the movie, but judging from the smile I saw on his face at some point of the movie, I can wholeheartedly agree with Emperor Mochi when he says "Money too sweet ABEG". I hope you had a good week, and we can have fun together this weekend.
