Chairman! chairman!

Written by Michael Obiomah

Nigeria and the Chairman syndrome.

I don't really understand what it means, when people see me (for example) and say "Chairman, your boys are loyal". How am I your chairman? By election ....or selection? And as a chairman what are my responsibilities? Loyalty?....do you pledge your allegiance to me, and all I represent? Or maybe the answer lies in the fact that, I might just be the best option to help solve your immediate need hence the need to massage my ego with the "Chairman" speak.

Apologies for my absence, I have been otherwise preoccupied and couldn't find time to write this blog for a short minute or two (typical Nigerian making excuses for laziness). However, I was watching TV today and saw the video by Phyno saying "spray me dollar" and all that, just to show me love. Is that really true? Must I show you love by throwing money in the air? And why is it safe to assume that because someone rides a bigger car, or wears better clothes, that person is in a situation any better than your own. Make una no go use the power of hype take make people run enter debts oh! Nobody owes you nothing....and those who help, do it from their hearts because of love. It might not be what you expected, but show appreciation because it might be all that they got.

Remember how back in the day when your parents bought you new clothes, and you will try them in front of the mirror everyday impatiently waiting for Sunday? That's how it still feels when you start something new, I would like to believe. We have had that giddy feeling for a couple of weeks now (since PROOF opened) and I'd bet you, the love affair with this business would linger for more than a minute. If you have been to the building, you'd know why I write like this....but if you haven't had the opportunity to, and you live around, what are you waiting for? For those of you who want a future date, hit me up and let's plot.

Finally, please if you know anybody we can talk to.....do we need to build an ark to survive the steady rainfall in Benin? Seeing as the governor has done his best to forget about a drainage system in the Government Residential Area (I believe that's what GRA means), we are left to paddle canoes to and from work. Even the mechanic that used to be your friend, can't fix your vehicle in this rain. Now the #NativeBicycle is calling me, and I can't even go downstairs without getting drenched. What a day!!!

Anyway, it's good to be back. Have a great week ahead and I'd see you soon. Cheers 🍷
