Do what matters only

Discipline...."is the process of making people obey rules or standards of behaviour, and punishing them when they do not."

All our lives as kids,I remember my Mum and my teachers, telling me "Michael, you have to learn to be disciplined". And taking a lot of stick, when I crossed the line. Now, in retrospect I understand how some of those lectures have helped me groom me into the man I am now. First thing I do every morning is make my bed, for example, and sweep my room. That's something I picked up from Lumen Christi. How to fold your clothes in your wardrobe, and always wear clean clothes. The test of a man's character, is his level of discipline.

How do you go about tasks that are expected of you? Do you need to take punishment to remind you of what's expected of you, at your age? Why do you need to get drunk and exhibit your lack of self control? You take a trip out of town, and dance because it's an opportunity for you to sleep with random women. Someone offers you food you shouldn't be eating, but your greed won't let you say no. Na WA. Indulge in life's pleasures... do what brings you a smile. However, take some time to watch how your actions define the kind of person you are. Most people you'd meet will never know the "real" you,so will be forced to make their own conclusions about your persona by studying your actions.

Permit me to make another sporting analogy. I once read a story about Cristiano Ronaldo, how he would stay back after training to practice free kicks. How he sleeps in an ice chamber, to refresh after games. How he tied weights to his ankles during jumping sessions, so he could get more spring. His former teammate Patrice Evra, told of how he visited him AFTER training and instead of going to relax after a light meal, they were back in the gym. Rio Ferdinand beat Ronaldo in a tennis game, and people laughed. He went to the store, bought a tennis table and started practicing. In a couple of weeks, he asked for a rematch and beat Ferdinand in front of the same crowd that laughed before. No wonder after 451 goals in 438 games, in 9 years at Real Madrid, he was still transferred for a profit on his previous world record transfer.

Start thinking about what you're teaching your kids....& realise it's never too late to start making a change in your own lives. "Nemo dat quod non habet" (translated to mean, you cannot give what you don't have....basically). So in my own opinion, you have to start by disciplining yourself first, and by example lead others.

TGIF....it has been a very hectic week. Let's go unwind a little tonight. Have a great day, and I'd see y'all tomorrow
