Sunny Side of Life

Written by Michael Obiomah

Hello, good afternoon....

I'm gonna start by telling you a story,my sister once told us. A man tells his son,"when I collect my pension,I will buy a white Raleigh bicycle. We will only ride it to church on Sunday and on special occasions". The son replies,"Papa you funny oh,only on Sunday? Anyway, that na your own. I go ride the bicycle go visit dem Josephine. Ride am enter poto-poto, market, everywhere". The man beat the child to a pulp. For a bicycle that didn't exist. For pension that people have died queuing up to collect. Amazing.

When Manchester United signed Paul Pogba for £89m, Jurgen Klopp (the Liverfool coach said) "The day that is football,I'm out of a job. Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I would do things differently even if I could spend that money". As at that time,Liverfool FC record signing was £35m paid for Andy Carroll. Klopp has since broken that record SIX times in two years, and has now set the WORLD record on amounts spent on a defender and a goalkeeper. Spending a paltry sum of £170m.....what a change of heart😏

What do these stories {fiction and fact} have in common? Nobody knows tomorrow...so why worry so much? How have we become so absorbed with future plans, that we have forgotten to be thankful for the present? A wise man once said "The best laid plans of man and mice, most often don't come to fruition".....in simple English, it means that most of the things we dream of achieving escape us, but just because we don't reach those goals don't mean that other opportunities are not going to be presented to us to make better lives for ourselves.

I thought about these while attending service today. How a lot of people remember to attend church when they really need something. You're a 30 year old single girl, and all of a sudden you realise you have to start praying about it...I need a life partner. I need a better job, let's fast for 30 days. You're staring down the barrel of a gun,and you're asking to say a "last prayer". I'm not here to even pretend to be any better,or judge the rest of us who live that way....but a word of advice, let's remember to stay GRATEFUL for the simple pleasures we enjoy today. Life is beautiful, embrace it. Quit your whining, and making demands all the time. Take time to appreciate what you've got and just be happy.

That was a short sermon from me this Sunday, to make you feel good. And for those who give your life to Christ on Sunday, and take it back on Monday ...well done. It's the start of a new week...get ready for some "New Week,New ME"(bulls**t),from those who stop smoking every year on the 31st of December. As for me and my household...we remain the "Knights of the Night".

Ciao
