What's your Adeniny?

Hello,good morning...

Hope y'all woke up on the right side of the bed today? ...I did. And my very first waking thought was , "what's your identity"? There are two pages I like to check on Instagram daily, to keep me entertained while I'm in the loo....@lasisielenu & @charles_okocha. Crazy folk, who actually inspired me to write this blog. They talk. I write. I like Lasisi, he gives experiences...& Igwe Tupac is just a clown, but he trends. His last punchline, "what's your identity" made me realise that I never introduced myself....my bad.

Excerpts from a Q & A session with Danielle Pen

Q. Danielle Pen What are your full names?

A: Michael Obiomah... MickyDU to the GenPop

Q. Danielle Pen Give us a short bio, what's your ADENINY?

A:- Born in the 80's, Benin-City to the World's greatest parents (1991). Last child of eight, I actually have five brothers and two pretty sisters. I went to some decent schools, including Lumen Christi & Uniben and learned everything I know from the streets. The red sand of Ugbowo, and the concrete jungle called Lagos. I was lucky enough to marry my first love, and we have two kids who can't be any different. Micky (17) is a shy book junkie, and Ivana (3) is very concerned about how she looks in the mirror. I like to think I'm an open book, but I also value my time alone {I'm basically a contradiction...an introvert and an extrovert in one fell swoop}.

Q. Danielle Pen  What do you do for work?

A:- if you check somewhere in my archive log, you'd probably find some Law certificates but I'm not sure I have opened a Law book in almost a decade. I found my true calling sitting in the living room of Rachel Agbonkhese, discussing branding. Our first project,I can't forget was Aquamarine boat club. We were still using "computers" (I can't even remember the names now sef) with white backs. Mouse. Carrying flash drives to the printer in Mushin. Damn...look how far we've come. Sometime after that,I met Sunny Green and we formed our own company in 2013. I even took some time out to work for Law Union, earn some pay to fund our first projects. I can't bore you with stories of the 20 or 200 projects we have worked on, trying to raise money. Many of them put us further in the red {we lost money} but we never stop. While contemplating the profit/loss of one project,we jump on the next. That's how CVENT has never wavered.

Q. Danielle Pen How did you get into the entertainment business?

A:- First of,I must confess ...I'm kinda a voyeur. I like to see people have fun. Maybe why I would rather watch a dance video, than the news channel. So I always liked to attend or organise parties. I can't place my finger on a date, cause I feel like this has been a part of me all along. As much I tried to do other businesses, like a video club, recharge card sales, sewing clothes, selling clothes, a beauty shop, I didn't really have fun until I opened my first bar. The satisfaction of making money while enjoying my hobby, was otherworldly. And it never stopped me from branding. I was also lucky to gain experience working for other people, at bigger bars and clubs...until it didn't work out (mostly for private reasons). This year, my partner and I decided to go in a different direction...& we began organising syndicated parties. Now,what's amazing is we have to actually work "physically" on an event for a couple days every month. This gives us ample time to work on our other projects, we actually work with a lot of corporate brands. Thank God for social media marketing, we can communicate with our audience via social media for about 75% of information sharing. We haven't always succeeded, but we call these "growing pains". Like I said before,we don't stop. Just keep moving on, and keep the "Ideas factory" open. So far in 2018, we have had an event once a month with varying degrees of success.

Q. Danielle Pen So what are we expecting from CVENT? Any new projects?

A:- yeah,we working on a couple projects right now. We continue to service our corporate brands,....but that's the boring stuff (that pays most of the bills😉). However, the interesting stuff is about to begin. We are partners in the most exciting project, this side of the Globe. PROOF. PROOF is an upscale club, and lounge area for the modern day gentleman. The new luxury. Watch this space for more updates. Then we also have our pet project,#TheMansion. Sometimes,we just open the house and have a party because we can. Frankly, I can't say much more than you'd need to experience these events to get the clear picture. It's the ultimate chill zone.

Q. Danielle Pen Hobbies & Favourites?

A:- Watching football. Favourite team: Manchester United. Favourite drink: Orijin bitters. Favourite TV show: Power. Exercise routine: football once a week, gym thrice. Favourite food: Pounded yam and Okro soup. Favourite person: is that a trick question? I love my wife,my daughter and my Mum. My best friend should be Micky JR {I don't know if I'm his best friend though....😊. And I don't care}.

Q. Danielle Pen Kiss, Marry, Kill... Oprah, Ellen & Cookie.

A:- Kiss Ellen, Marry Cookie, Kill Oprah

Well... I guess that's my ADENINY. What's yours?

On an aside,I have an advice for the young folk. While you can have mentors, you don't see what they do behind the scenes to make it work, so please try to create a persona for yourself...or you'd be trapped in other people's expectations for you,and lose yourself.

Have a good day...go into the world and make a living. Cheers 🍷
